Kid Paint Recipes

Window Paint

Turn your windows, patio doors and mirrors into works of art. Mix together equal parts dishwashing liquid and washable liquid paint or powdered tempera. Children will love the process of painting and adults will love the end result: the paint wipes off easily with a dry paper towel.

Easy Face Paint

This is the easiest to make (and easiest to clean) recipe for face paint. Separate colors with a muffin tin or an egg carton. Place a spoonful of cold cream into each cup. Add 1 or 2 drops of different colors of food coloring to the cold cream, and stir. Apply the face paint using a clean paintbrush or cotton swabs.

Spiffy-Sniffy Watercolors

Your artwork will smell terrific with this simple watercolor recipe. Use a small cup for each color. Mix one package of powdered drink mix (Kool-Aid) with 2 tablespoons of warm water for each color. Stir until the powder dissolves. Once all of the colors are prepared, use a clean paintbrush to paint sweet-smelling pictures.

Foamy Bath Paint

Encourage children to paint undersea adventure scenes while taking their evening baths. To make bath paints, simply mix together shaving cream with a drop of food coloring. Dip a paintbrush, or better yet, your fingers, into the mix and start creating!

Pudding Paint

Instant Vanilla Pudding
Instant Chocolate Pudding
Food Coloring

Mix pudding according in directions.  Add food coloring to vanilla pudding for desired color. Finger paint on paper plates or wax paper.

Jello Finger Paint

Any Kind of Flavored Jello
Enough boiling water to make it a goo consistency for finger paint.
Use your normal finger painting material or glossy paper.  Kids love the smell and feel of it.

Washable Finger Paint

1 Cup All-Purpose Flour
1 Cup Cold Water
3 Cups Cold Water
Food Coloring

In a large saucepan mix the flour with the 1 cup cold water.  Stir until smooth.  Then add the 3 cups cold water.  Cook over medium heat, stirring till mixture thickens and bubbles.  Reduce heat and simmer 1 minute more while still stirring.  Divide into three heat-resistant bowls.  Tint with food coloring.  Cover and cool.

Corn Syrup Paint

Add food coloring to light corn syrup for a beautiful paint with an interesting texture. Mix up a cup of blue, yellow, and red, and put a spoonful of each on a paper plate. Child paints his plate with the colors. Allow five days drying time. Then your child can trace a design onto the bottom of the plate and cut out the design.

Soap Flakes Finger Paint

1 1/2 cups dry laundry starch
1 1/2 cups soap flakes
1 quart boiling water
water
food coloring or tempera paint

Mix starch with enough cold water to make a paste. Add boiling water and stir until clear. Cool and add soap flakes and coloring. Store in a tightly sealed container.
